In this context, the word can refer only to the most extreme forms of human suffering. Specific torments in the passage are the flames, the sight of the righteous, thirst in the passage are the flame, the sight of righteous, thirst, the victims memories of their previous lives, and the realization that they are in a hopeless situation. Because of the severity of these torments, no one should assume he is going to heaven unless he has personally thrusted Christ as Savior _________________________________________________________MATTHEW 8:29 - And, behold, they cried out, saying, what have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? _________________________________________________________ROMANS 1:18 - For the wrath of God is revealled from heaven against all ungodiness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness. _________________________________________________________
